Der Name dieser Sammlung erzählt von der italienischen Insel Lazzaretto Nuovo. Als gerade die Pest in Europa wütet, schickt man jedes Schiff, das in Venedig anlegen will, in Isolation. Die Besatzung muss für 40 Tage auf der Insel Lazzaretto ausharren. Erst dann darf sie das Festland betreten. 40 Tage - so lang wie die biblische Sintflut, 40 Tage verbrachte Moses auf dem Berg Sinai in der Gegenwart Gottes, 40 Tage wird im Islam der Toten gedacht, 40 Tage dauert die Passionszeit vor Ostern. Und vom italienischen „40", Quaranta, leitet sich auch unser aktueller Zustand ab, die Quarantäne.

The name of this collection derives from the Italian island Lazzaretto Nuovo. Back in medieval times, when the great plague was raging in Europe, every ship heading to the port of Venice was sent to the island for temporary isolation. The crew - suspected of disease - had to stay on Lazzaretto for 40 days before they were allowed on the Italian mainland. 40 days - just as long as the biblical flood. Just as long as Moses spent on Mount Sinai in the presence of God. Just as long as Easter Lent. From the Italian "40", “Quaranta” derives the word that describes our current state, the quarantine.
